Open the in-app list
- In the top bar, open the Help menu.
- Choose Keyboard Shortcuts.
The dialog that opens shows the shortcuts below.
Editing and formatting
These are the shortcuts listed in Hatchline's Keyboard Shortcuts dialog. On a Mac, use Cmd where the table shows Ctrl.
Keys | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl+S / Cmd+S | Save |
Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z | Undo |
Ctrl+Shift+Z / Cmd+Shift+Z | Redo |
Ctrl+B / Cmd+B | Bold |
Ctrl+I / Cmd+I | Italic |
Ctrl+U / Cmd+U | Underline |
Ctrl+K / Cmd+K | Search — jump to any document |
Ctrl+` | Scene break |
Alt+Click | Reorder in the binder (on the drag handle) |
Hatchline saves as you write, so Ctrl+S is there for peace of mind, not necessity — your words are already on their way to being saved.
Find and replace
These two also work in the editor, though they aren't shown in the in-app Keyboard Shortcuts dialog. Both need a document open.
Keys | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl+F / Cmd+F | Find in the current chapter (press again to close) |
Ctrl+H / Cmd+Alt+H | Find and replace in the current chapter |
Full details on searching and replacing — including whole-project replace — are in Search & replace.
Ctrl+H on a Mac is reserved by the system, so on macOS the replace shortcut is Cmd+Alt+H instead. On Windows and Linux, Ctrl+H works as shown.
